According to the condition of one January 2017, 28713 vacancies of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes were vacant in these departments. The Ministry said that instructions have been issued to all the ministries and departments to set up an internal committee to fill such vacancies through special recruitment drive. It is notable that various political parties and Dalit organizations are demanding to fill vacant posts of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in Government Departments. The opposition is trying to surround the government on various issues on this issue.
According to official statistics, 301 posts were vacant in the postal department in the postal department in the postal department whereas 718 posts in Scheduled Tribes and 484 posts in the OBC were vacant. In the Ministry of Defense 399 posts were vacant in Scheduled Castes whereas 366 posts in Scheduled Tribes and 1268 posts in Other Backward Classes were vacant.

In the scheduled castes, 145 posts were vacant in Scheduled Castes category, while in the Scheduled Tribes category, there were 324 posts and ten posts in the Other Backward Classes were vacant. In the Ministry of Home, 3198 posts were vacant in Scheduled Castes whereas 2230 posts in SC category and 5120 posts in OBC were vacant. According to the data of Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances and Pension, according to information received from the affiliated / subordinate offices of 77 ministries, the representation of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in Central Government posts and services up to 17.49 per cent respectively, 8.47 percent and 21.5 percent.
